Bag Books: Quick Review

Amy Butler's Style Stitches: 12 Easy Ways to 26 Wonderful BagsHere is a picture of the newest thing to be finished from the sewing room. It is a pattern from Amy Butlers Style Stitches: 12 easy ways to 26 wonderful bags.   The bag turned out great and is a huge.  I used regular quilters broadcloth and with a pellon fusible on each side it stands up great.  It should hold about 3 plastic bags worth of groceries!

I recommend this book, but only if you have some experience with bags or another book with more pictures for reference. This book does have great patterns, but does not dive into bag making techniques and is not a step by step reference.  As I am fairly new to bags... (I have made 2 others)  I needed to reference a couple of other books that I highly recommend.
The Bag Making Bible: The Complete Guide to Sewing and Customizing Your Own Unique BagsThe Bag Making Bible: The Complete Guide to Sewing and Customizing Your Own Unique Bags.  By: Lisa Lam   this book talks about all the techniques and has tons of color pictures.
But, my very favorite reference guide for bag making is:  Sew Serendipity Bags: Fresh and Pretty Projects to Sew and Love.  By: Kay Whitt. This book is set up similarly to Amy Butler's, but it goes into much more detail for each step and has tons of pictures and tips along the way.

Merry Christmas

Hello all. Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas! <>It was busy here with opening gifts at home, then off to the in-laws for Christmas number 2. I am glad that I didn't buy very much for my kids this year b/c everyone else sure did! I gave away a few quilty items. The first was a Christmas table runner that was simple random strips that we're set at a diagonal. I also did some machine embroidery to it and made two matching ornaments. This was given to my mother and father in law. 2nd was a wall hanging for one of my brother in laws. We live in Nebraska and I think it may be illegal not to be a husker fan; so, I made a husker themed wall hanging for his gym. As for me, I received a quilt kit and a pampered chef casserole. Not bad! I hope to get pics up if these thing soon. Of course with the hustle of the season I forgot to take pictures before wrapping :-( All for now, -amy

Picture. First quilt

Here it is... my attempt at adding a picture.  This is a picture of the first bed sized quilt that I have ever made.  It is also the first quilt I ever started on... though it is not the first quilt I ever finished!  ;-)

My apologies for the poor picture.  As new as I am to blogging I am also very new to quilt photography.  I can see that I think I may want to try to get rid of the date setting on my camera too!
